Businesses packing parts for shipment take responsibility for that packaging. The EU PPWR has applied since 12 August 2026 and Germany's VerpackDG supplements it nationally. System-participation status depends on the role, packaging type and typical waste route. The old shortcut that only B2C matters is not a sufficient assessment.
Register, participate and report
- LUCID registration: affected producers or first distributors register before making packaging available.
- System participation: obligated volumes are financed through a contract with a system operator.
- Data reporting: materials, quantities, period and system must be reported consistently in LUCID.
- Marketplace checks: platforms and fulfilment providers must verify required supplier evidence.
- Documentation: master data, brands, packaging types, weights, contracts and reports must reconcile.
Operational process for parts traders
- Clarify the role for own shipping, drop shipment, fulfilment, import and private labels.
- Classify sales, grouped, transport and e-commerce packaging by function and material.
- Determine weights through reliable bills of material or measured profiles by shipment class.
- Aggregate planned and actual quantities from shipment events and reconcile them with the system contract.
- Report required data in LUCID on time and mirror corrections with the system operator.
- Retain registration, contract, quantity logic and reporting evidence for audit.
ERP data instead of guesswork
- Shipment class and packaging profile per order
- Weight by material and actual units shipped
- Country, channel, fulfilment owner and return
- New or demonstrably participated reused packaging
- Reporting period, contract, LUCID reference and correction status
- Variance between plan, contract and actual quantity

Frequently asked
Does LUCID apply only to used-parts traders?
No. The role in making packaging available matters, not whether the shipped part is new, remanufactured or used.
Does LUCID registration replace the system contract?
No. Registration, system participation and data reporting are separate obligations.
Are reused shipping boxes automatically exempt?
No. ZSVR requires specific evidence of previous participation; new additional materials must be considered separately.
